Saving MaxLawyer Danielle Parkman is at her wit’s end. Her son, Max, is a whipsmart teen with high-functioning autism who has shut down, is using drugs and lashing out. Just finished the book and thoroughly enjoyed it. I am a mother of two grown boys and a first year kindergarten teacher after 20 years in education with the majority as an elementary counselor.

I just picked the book up at a book store and decided to get it. Not until I was nearly through the book did I see your picture and resume at the back. It explained the legal side of the book, and how you could have Danielle persevere in the courtroom. all the twists and turns kept me reading late into the night only to wake up and finish the last hour of reading early in the morning. But I am from Iowa and loved it when I realized you sent them to the top-notch psychiatric hospital in Iowa. I worked for a summer at Woodward State Hospital school just north of Des Moines and you made it all seem so real. Why did you chose Iowa? Iowa has great friendly, intelligent people-but not known for having world-class hospitals.

Just wanted to let you know I really like the book. If this is your first, you really did a great job.

I have to admit, this is the first time I bought a book because of the author’s name :)
Looking forward to reading it and hope it will be as good as I expect.

Bought this book on a whim to help me pass the time from my bunionectomy as I had to be in bed for 4 days straight. Well, now I need to send my husband to Target to buy me another book because I could not put this book down, read it in 2 hours!! GREAT GREAT work Antionette. I am going to send it on to my dear friend who has 2 autistic sons herself. Thank you.

Just finished reading “Saving Max”. It held me gripping the book till the very end. I have a special interest in Autism and Special Needs Children as I have worked with these kids my whole life. I read this book with anticipation due to the suspense and sutle humor at times. Best read in a long time!

    Ms. Van Heugten,

I wanted to express what an awesome job you did on this book. I was walking in Target looking for something to keep my interest. As a mother of two boys I was caught by the question: What would you do if your child were accused of murder? I am not an avid reader but happened to pick this book up. Once I had it in my hands I could not put it down. Since reading your book I have picked up others to enjoy. I cannot wait to read more books written by you. I will sharing and encouraging others to read it…Great Job!!
