BEA 2007: Podcasts Are Coming

With BookExpo 2007 just completed, we are busy preparing a great sampling of audio podcasts from the show featuring the Special Events, Education Programs, Upfront & Unscripted Interviews, and coverage of the Audio Publishers Association Conference.

Ken Burns on The War

For more than thirty years Ken Burns has directed and produced some of the most acclaimed historical documentaries ever made, including Baseball, The Civil War, and JAZZ. His latest documentary, The War, tells the story of the Second World War through the personal accounts of a handful of men and women from four quintessentially American towns. An accompanying book, The War: An Intimate History, 1941-1945, by Geoffrey C. Ward, includes a forward written by Burns.

Burns will be speaking at the Book and Author Breakfast on Saturday, June 2.

Christopher Kenneally to Host Two Sessions at BEA

Christopher Kenneally is the Director of Author Relations at Beyond the Book, an information program of the Copyright Clearance Center.

On Thursday, May 31 at 3:00 pm, Kenneally will moderate a panel entitled, “Giving it Away: Free Lunch or Unrealized Opportunity,” which will address the pros and cons of supplementing the sale of a book with free content. Leading the panel discussion will be Chris Anderson, the Editor-in-Chief of WIRED and the author of The Long Tail.

The other BTB session hosted by Kenneally, “A Winning Season? It’s Time to Take Sports-writing Seriously,” is on Friday June 1 at 11:30 am, and will feature Starling Lawrence, VP and Editor-in-Chief of W.W. Norton & Company, David Marannis, Associate Editor of The Washington Post, and Cait Murphy, Sr. Editor of Fortune .

Will Schwalbe on the Pros and Con of Email

Chris Anderson Addresses the Changing Retail Landscape

Chris Anderson is the editor-in-chief of WIRED and the author of The Long Tail. In this episode, Anderson gives us a preview of two sessions he’ll be involved with at BEA.

“Giving it Away: Free Lunch or Unrealized Opportunity” will take place on Thursday, May 31 at 3:00. “Giving it Away” addresses the pros and cons of supplementing the sale of a book with free content. During “Upfront & Unscripted: Ken Lombard, President, Starbucks Entertainment,” Anderson and Lombard will discuss how the innovative coffee seller has moved into the realm of book and music retail. This session is scheduled for Friday, June 1 at 1:30 pm.
