Mystery Authors Stage: Colin Harrison and James Ellroy

James Ellroy is the best-selling author of such books as The Black Dahlia and L.A. Confidential. His new novel, Blood’s A Rover, is due to be released in September 2009.

Risk, also due out in September, is the new book from Colin Harrison. In addition to penning several highly-acclaimed novels, including Manhattan Nocturne, Harrison is a vice president and executive editor at Scribner.

The 2009 BEA Mystery Authors Stage was hosted by Sarah Weinman, who writes the crime fiction column for the Los Angeles Times and blogs at Confessions of an Idiosyncratic Mind.

BEA Guest of Honor: Captain Chesley B. Sullenberger, III

Captain Chesley B. Sullenberger who, along with his crew, safely landed US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River, appeared at BookExpo America 2009 as a Guest of Honor, speaking briefly and signing autographs.

Sully’s memoir, Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters, is due out in December 2009.

Literary Lions: Richard Russo and John Irving

BookExpo America 2009 featured many innovative new twists. A noticeable change for BEA veterans was the addition of two “Author Stages” in the middle of the show floor, where best-selling authors were interviewed about their new projects.

This “Author Stage” video podcast features Richard Russo, whose new novel is That Old Cape Magic, and John Irving, who’s highly-anticipated new book is called Last Night in Twisted River. New York Times journalist Charles McGrath served as host for this event.
