The BEA Story Project is Born

Everybody has a story to tell. And BEA is in the story business. So it seemed like a natural — the BEA Story Project was born. With more than 100 years of ABA conventions and 10 years of BEA exhibitions there are countless stories of fame, fortune, humor and romance.

What was it like the first time you went to BEA? What famous author did you run into in the restroom? Did you meet a future spouse at BEA? Did you lose one? What was your most embarassing moment? Your greatest moment?

Share your story — by text post or recorded voice message — with the rest of the world!

Actually, I just had it. An embarrassing moment that is. As a first time author and a person attending the BEA for the first time, I happened across an article by a young lady that caught my attention.

For the first time in the history of my computer usage, I finally decided to send a reply to someone because I was intrigued by the title of her book. Being a virgin to this whole talk to strangers world [I just recently found out how to send an attachment with my email, if that gives you any idea of how out of touch I am...] Anyway, my first venture out into the world…my first experience with reaching out and expressing myself only made me look like an idiot. Even worse, a writer who does not pay attention to detail!

The very first sentence in her piece states that she has never been to the BEA before, and yet, in closing, I asked her if she had any tips for newbies. Not a shining moment, but I hope it doesn’t discourage others from reading my book…[A Voice From the Village]. That was my embarrassing moment, and I hope I don’t have any more! Maybe I can share a funny story, or a “brush with Fame” next time. I think I’m due.

    Thanks for letting me share.
