I’m in love with books. I love the way they feel, smell, and the different sounds different pages make as they’re turned. When a page from a bible is turned it sounds different than a hardcover, or a paperback or the thick semi-gloss page of a coffee table book. To run hands over a page; the feel of a laid from a linen, a high gloss from a matte; so primitive and sensual. The beauty of the words and art contained within is for another post.
A book that has changed my life? All books, every book has changed me. So much so that my life’s vision is to advance children’s literacy from the ordinary ability to read to the extraordinary desire to read. If a child loves books, that child can learn anything. I hope to share that vision with all of you.
Next week will be my second Book Expo experience. Last year when I stepped into the Washington Convention Center…well, no need to tell you. You are as addicted as I. The joy of BEA is not only being in a room filled to the brim with things you love and cherish, it is filled with people who share that love. How many times in a lifetime does that really happen?
So many books, so much to see and learn and so many minds wanting to connect, and for too short a time. This is the price we gladly pay for our passion.
